Host header size limitations

I'm not new to using host headers. I have several on a 2003 web server (IIS
6.0), all sharing the same IP. I'm trying to set up a new site. When I ping
the URL, it responds with the correct IP. When I try to go to the site
however, it either crashes on the default site, or dies with some google
suggestions.
I can access the site using the server name and port number.
The only thing I can figure is that there must be a limit to the size of a
URL. Does anyone out there know??
Thanks
.
