Re: 404 error when accessing a folder containing ".com"

Try comparing the MIME types on the servers.

Also, any security software on the server, clients, and networks in between
could be doing that. Check the logs for any security software you find.

Realistically though, you should operate within the parameters of web
services and not use a dot in the folder name in the first place. A ".com"
file IS an executable, and you'd be compromising on security if you set it
up to run on a web server. So you are doing two things outside the
established best-practices already, disabling part of the sensible security
on a server or client is not a good way to operate.

Hi all,

I tried to figure this one out myself bug gave up. I created a web
application that is accessed with the following URL:
http://server/organization/isv/stunnware.com/cld4/...

This application is running on at least 500 servers without a problem, but
I have one client where accessing this path returns a 404 error. I have
read numerous articles explaining that IIS does not support a dot in
folder names or that the ".com" may let it treat the folder name as an
executable and therefore block it. However, it's running on all other
servers, both IIS 6 and IIS 7 and also on Windows Server 2003 and 2008,
x32 and x64.

It has to be a setting somewhere on the machine, but after looking at
various places I don't know where to look else. Can anyone give me a hint
where this behavior is configured?

Thanks in advance,
