I agree with the redirection bit. Why do you say "... with any other hostname ..."? I would not expect any problem running multiple web sites with the same hostname header if they are on multiple different IP / port combinations.
I do this with many sites and it works very well.
I too use this type of redirection extensively and I *LOVE* it. As an added benefit, search engines will pick up on the redirection and take it in to account. (Along these lines if you have multiple ""vanity domains, this is a great way to have them land you on your ""main web site with out any penalties b/c of duplicated content on multiple sites.)
