Hi

I got a Windows 2000 pro machine with IIS 5.0 and IE6.0, and doing
asp.net development using VS 2003. The machine is bound to a domain.

A few weeks ago I noticed that when starting an application from VS it
used the url "http://Localhost:/some.app". The capital L and the colon
at the didn't affect the performance in any way so i left it as it was.

However, last week funny things started to occur. Out of the blue,
whatever page I tried to browse on "localhost" gave me a HTTP/1.1 400.
My first instinct was to try "127.0.0.1" instead, which worked just
fine... for about 15 minutes, then it produced the same error. Then I
tested using the computer name, which also worked for about 15 minutes
before the 400 appeared. As a last resort, I started using the IP
address of my machine which also worked for 15 minutes.

Then I tested to send a request to IIS via telnet (using localhost 80).
This actually works just fine. I can get a testpage located directly
under wwwroot, which produces a 400-error in IE.

Then I tried a lot of things, including...

- altering the proxy settings
- deselecting the proxy altogether
- clearing temporary pages
- reinstalling iis
- checking the http header settings
- checking the iis ip address bindings
- re-registering asp.net
- changing the access rights

I tried using Firefox, and that did actually work for a while, but now
it's the same thing there...

However, one thing did actually give me a result, which was clearing the
dns cache with IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS.

At least for a while. I got the same problem again a few times and
managed to make it go away with a flushing of the dns. Until now. Now
it's back to the 400-error and clearing the dns cache doesn't help...

Any suggestions on possible solutions would be greatly appreciated!

regards//J
