I had the same problem. I then ran esentutl /p
%windir%\security\database\secedit.sdb, and it was able to copy all of
the files correctly without a hitch. It stated the component
installation was successful, and prompted me to click "finish". All
seemed well. However...
After clicking to finish it, a box saying "XP Setup..." hung there on my
screen. It simply stayed there. After 15-20 minutes (long after it was
acting suspect), I brought up Task Manager. The setup was supposedly
still running -- and no "Not Responding" status. So I gave it more
time; literally a couple of hours. In the meantime, I was able to
access other programs on my computer with no problem or slowdown. The
"XP Setup" would not go away, even hours after it had supposedly
completed, so I had to end the process the task via Task Manager.
After several reboots and several more attempts to uninstall (it had
shown IIS as being checked (installed already?) in the Windows Component
Wizard) and install IIS, I still get the same XP Setup hangup every
time. I looked in the Administrative Tools, and no IIS. But strangely,
I see Inetinfo.exe in the running processes in Task Manager. My guess?
IIS had actually installed correctly, but since it never completed the
XP Setup process fully, Windows does not recognize it and doesn't show
it in the Admin Tools list, and therefore I have no way of accessing it.
Does anybody have anysuggestions on what to do?
