The 4.1.x series is for the slightly older JSP 1.2 and Servlet 2.3 specs.

5.0.28 is the latest 5.0.x release. It's been out for about a week and will
probably be labelled as the latest stable release in the next couple days.

As far as resource utilization of v4 over v5, each successive version of
Tomcat has improved all-around performance and resource utilization. If
there is a difference between 4.x and 5.x, it wasn't visibly noticable.

Unless you have a need for the older spec, use 5.0.28. 5.5 has a little ways
to go before I would consider it for anything except research/testing. I'd
also suggest the latest release of Java 1.4.2, which I think is 1.4.2_05.
