I have read a number of posts in news groups about this issue with IIS
and folders that have ".com" or some other executable extension in the
name.
I've read MKBA - 275601.
So I apologize for beating this very dead horse....
The WiderNet Project is a non-profit project that collects, with
permission, mirrors of websites. Stores them on a 120GB hard drive and
then delivers this hard drive to universities in the countries with
little or no access to the internet. There, the drive is served on a
NT or Win2k server running IIS on the campus network, usually a 100MB
LAN. Currently, we have over 1 million "documents" that students and
faculty can access. Some html, some pdf, some video. Basically its we
get what's on a web site.
We use HTTrack, and the files are saved in project folders. The
project folders contain the "offending" names. For sites that end in
.edu, .gov, .net or .org we do not have a problem. But we are
beginning to collect more material from sites with a .com in the name.
We need this naming convention for other parts of our project.
That brings me back to the "dead horse." What can we do with IIS to
work around this? Is there someone we could talk to at Microsoft?
We are using NT4 and 2000 Server.
The "digital library" contains no dynamic content or scripts.
Thank you for your time.
