Steve,
I've reviewed both of your threads. Probably the issue is not so
tough as you thought.
After you assigned "Intranet" as the host header of this new site.
The site must be accessed as http://Intranet/ - this is correct.
However, the most important point is: we must let client browsers
recognize the Netbios/DNS name 'Intranet' is just pointed to the
server's ip address but not others - means when we ping Intranet ,
the server's IP should be resolved. To achieve this, you can either
add a new DNS record or add a static record in the SBS server's HOSTS
file(only takes effect locally).
I suggest you perform the following steps first:
1) Open \WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file with Notepad.
2) Add a record:
<the IP of the site> Intranet (Use Tab for
the blank space between IP and 'Intranet')
Save the file
3) Test ping Intranet on the SBS server and you should be able to get
the IP address
4) Open IE and browse to http://Intranet/ , you should no longer meet
a 'Server not found or DNS error'.
5) Then open the web http://Intranet/ in FrontPage and this time it
should work.
Be aware that all these above can only be performed locally(on the
SBS server) because HOSTS file only works locally.
If you want the site can work in your whole SBS2K3 domain, add a new
DNS record as SharePoint's Companyweb:
Click "Start", point to "Administrative Tools", and then click "DNS".
In the left pane of the DNS Management screen, expand "<ServerName>",
expand "Forward Lookup Zones", and then add a new Domain Name System
(DNS) entry as the Windows SharePoint Services Companyweb Web site.
Then test ping intranet from another box, if it works. You should be
able to open the site remotely with FrontPage.
Let me know if there is anything unclear or you still meet any
problem on it. My pleasure to be of assistance.
Best regards,
WenJun Zhang
