I have never set up a Web Server before, I have a Windows 2000 Pro that I am currently working on as a learning project. Is there the right way (duh) to start to "Name". Should my Server name be part of My FQDN . I am only using one Identification for this site.
There are Services such as "whose.iregister.com (Resolves and caches Domain Name System (DNS) names.)" "World Wide Web Publishing Service" and am I to be Setting any of these or are they set Locally else where? I have done allot of research on this in MSDN and I really don't get the whole picture, as It seems as each entry you make has a Name and you must look up what part or what this name should be off your FQDN or which part is DNS and which is Domain, as I have yet to get a proper Domain name entry in Network Identification, not found or other messages.
I guess the order of entering and which part of the whole name should be used.
Basically a rough step guide to: what part now to: where to next.
Also my domain address is registered with a Company that also set up Web sites there, as I choose to take my name and my two DNS Names is there some connection I must make to there Server in all of this.
One more thing I am going through a router is the routers IP address for this Computer the IP address for the Web site. I really do have tons of print outs, no order to them.
Thanks to anyone who takes time to read or even give a push in right direction
