Digital ID??

I get an error message stating that I need a digital ID to send an e-mail
while on a website (ie "Contact Us"). It then takes me to a page where I
can select a number of providers like VeriSign. As best I can tell their
purpose is primarily to setup websites for consumers, not hand out free
digital ID's.
I think I'm missing something here and my problem probably isn't that I need
an ID??
