I was also slightly disappointed when Log Analyzer Adv 8 was launched
because while it continues to produce great reports, its technical
ability had got worse. It is also particularly annoyning when you have
corruption in your web reports, and you cannot easily resolve it
without going through a painful process. However, web reports and
information you get from the software is great.
Webtrends is phasing out the Log Analyzer 8 and launching a new
version in May 2004, called Wentrends 7 (in 3 editions). So, Log
Analyser 8 can be upgraded to the "small business" edition, free
upgrade if you still have your yearly subscription.
I have tried another software before, called NetTracker. But I think
they priced it too high if the size of your logfiles are massive and
need to use the highest version.
One more idea --- it is risky to use free software or budget version
of log analysis software IF publicity is a factor. You are better off
to pick the ones that have been agreed by the industry. Believe it or
not, old version of Webtrends Log Analyzer (before version 8) was not
industry-standard so it was good for them to discontinue it.
Unfortunately, most analyzer/software that had been recognised with
industry-standard are usually expensive...
