Hi everyone,
OK, really stumped here.
I test ASP websites on my XP Pro machine, using http://localhost/sitename/ and IE.
I have about 10 virtual directories and 2 of them have stopped working or rather won't load. I selected 2 to compare:
Site1 has been opening fine. Today I went to open Site2 and it does nothing, the status bar just stays with 5 lines filled, about half way, (left this for over an hour) with nothing happening, no errors at all.
So I created a test.html page with just a word on it and put it under both sites. I successfully opened this page in both Site1 and Site2. So then I saved the same page on both sites as test.asp. Now only Site1 will open it. Site2 won't. There is no dynamic coding at all, just a basic html page with the word test on it. So now all this tells me is that Site1 is working fine but Site2 won't open pages with an ASP extension, no matter the coding of the page. So that would lead me to assume that it's the extension that's the problem.
So I did a final test, created Site3 with only the test page with both asp and html extensions. I created a new virtual directory pointing to this site. Using the IIS Console, I add a new virtual directory and use the wizard to set it up, with permissions set as Read, Run scripts & Write. I can pull up the html page fine. The asp page won't open.
So now I'm at a loss on how to fix this. I've tried:
1. Stopping and starting the web site
2. Restarting IIS
3. Disconnecting from the internet
4. Disconnecting from the router
5. Deleting all virtual directories and recreating them
6. Changing the path of the working site's virtual directory to point to the path of the non-working site...this made this virtual directory not work either.
Not really sure where to to from here. I've searched all over the web and every newsgroup I could find and can't find a reason for why this would happen.
I'm even more confused in the fact that I deleted all of the virtual directories and recreated them, only to have the same ones work or not work. On top of this, any new virtual directory I create has the same problem (I've tried 3 different ones already). What even makes it more confusing is that they all worked previously!!
I would have thought that the 2 non-working sites might be using code the others are not and this was causing the problem but since the new sites with the 2 test pages don't work either, this can't be it. And since the html pages work and not the asp pages, I would think this has to do with the extension....yet the asp pages of the other sites work just fine. Contradiction after contradiction!! I just can't seem to figure it out!!
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me to try before I go buy another computer :) ? Thanks in advance!!!
Jenn S.
