1. Please check whether the nodes "W3SVC" and "W3SVC/1" exist in your
current metabase.xml.
2. Also, on the commandline, run:
CSCRIPT %SYSTEMDRIVE%\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs enum w3svc/1/root
Please report what happens.

Unfortunatly there are no backup files in history folder before the issue started, there is a backup file in the inetserv\backup folder but don't know how to restore that. We can conclude that metabase is OK, IISadmin, smtp and FTP runs fine, I ave run Mcafee stinger to detect trojans running but it found nothing. 3rd party tools are uninstalled: Perl, AWstats. URLscan 2.5 is uninstalled. No other service is trying to listen to port 80. When trying to start WWW in services, the following error appears: Windows could not start the World Wide Web Publishing Service on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code -2147467262. and the eventlog messages mentioned in 1st post of this thread.. Last thing I remember that I did before the issue started, I upgraded MBSA 1.1 to 1.2. Then I ran the security analyzer and set it to scan local machine, it seemed to hang after that. I kept it running hoping it would go on, then I forgot all about it (afteral it was weekend) that night the probems started. I hope this extra information gives someone an idea what might be the issue.
