Attachment Icons not displaying

Does anybody know why a pdf attachment would not display the pdf icon
next to it when Outlook receives the message? I'm sending through smtp
with the application-type of pdf. When it sends through my windows
service it does not display the icon. If I send through my windows
program it does display the icon. It's very strange.
