    Look in the virtual smtp server properties in the internet services
    manager and they have some settings that dictate how long to wait
    before it sends notification and how long to consider it badmail.

    I use mailessentials on a gateway, seperate from my exchange 5.5, like
    you. But I turned off the NDR delivery option, and the reverse DNS
    lookup to speed things up.

    I think that there might be a a corrupt or stuck file in there too, but
    that could have been coincidence on my part.
