errors as i can connect to the mailserver with outlook express and it 'acts'
as though its fine. i can send an email and it connects and sends it, but it
doesnt deliver it. i dont receive emails either. its a bit bizarre.
Sometimes it asks me to login in again and i have a dialogue box that looks
slightly different to the normal ones as it asks for username, password and
domain. not sure if that helps.

The logon is because of the authentication method you use. If you have
specified IP addesses in the Relay box, you probably don't need Windows
Integrated authentication, but if you have that working that's fine.
You can check the /Inetpub/mailroot/* folders to see if any messages are
stuck in there. Received messages are placed in the drop if they aren't
delivered or queue if they are queued to to sent. If there is anything in
the bad mail there was an error sending/receiving.
You can also turn on logging, and have a look at the logs
/windows/system32/logfiles/smtpsvc to see what's happening.
