Re: FTP 2008 Server - takes VERY long time to connect FTP

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

The default blocks passive FTP - eventually it does connect after trying passive. If you make the rule in your windows firewall it passes the passive ftp attempts so it doesn't wait for the timeout -faster connection.

Mmm... but in this you should not able to connect at the begining since firewall blocking..
doesn't make sense with that exception you able connect quickly.. it should be either able to login or not.

I added the internet server app to the windows firewall exception list and it works.

Whoops - I meant to say I have FTP in my Windows firewall exceptions.

OK - I found the issue - when I establish the FTP session - it hangs in passive mode for a while waiting for a response - it eventually establishes a session but there is a very long delay. I have DNS in my firewall exceptions but that doesn't seem to solve it. Turning off the Windows firewall resolves the issue.

Hello,

I have a brand new quad core processor with tons of free space and 16 GIGS of ram. It is running 2008 with all the patches. I try to connect an FTP client on the same lan segment or remotely and it takes a VERY long time. I have a 2003 server on the same segment. WHen I connect to that one it takes about 10 seconds at most. What can I change on my 2008 server so FTP clients don't take so long to connect?
