You can try 'ls' which is list and dir

Exactly _where_ you type "list"?
In ftp.exe from Windows or OS/2?
Then the command is "dir".
"LIST" is the real FTP command, which requires some more action from the
client side (PORT, PASV, opening a 2nd socket).
"dir" covers that for you.
