Problem accessing FTP site from remote PC

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Applies to Windows Server 2003 Web Edition (Fully Patched), IIS 6.0

I'm currently hosting a website on a Windows Server 2003 box and I've configured the site just fine and users can navigate to that website with their web browser and view the contents etc.

What I am trying to do now is to setup and configure FTP access to that website for the Administrator so I can upload and change web content over the Internet or LAN and not just from the server machine. I've installed the FTP services through the Add/Remove Programs and within IIS I've expanded the server name and FTP Sites, added a new FTP site and pointed the directory to the same directory holding the website files and I've unchecked the checkbox next to 'Allow Anonymous Access' and given the Administrator 'Full Control'. I've also set the permissions on the website directory to allow the Administrator full access and configured an A Record in DNS for ftp to point to the external IP address

Everything seems to be fine and I can FTP to the site with no problem from the server machine, but when I navigate to ftp://ftp.domainname.com from a Windows XP Pro machine on the same network, I'm prompted to enter the username and password, so I enter Administrator as the username and then the associated password for that account, internet explorer says website found, waiting for reply .. but a few moments later I get the 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' error message. If I then click Page > Open FTP site in Windows Explorer, it opens as expected and again asks for the username and password, which I type in and click ok but after a few seconds I get the following message:

=======================================================================================
FTP Folder error

An error occurred opening that FTP folder on the FTP Server. Make sure you have Permissions to access that folder.

Details:
200 Type set to A.
227 Entering Passive Mode (68,18,83,89,20.241).
426 Connection closed, transfer aborted.

OK

I'm really at a loss now as to what I might be doing wrong, I would be the first to admit that I am not an expert when it comes to configuring FTP access but I'm scratching my head trying to think what else I could do to get this to work.

If anyone out there is a little more knowledgeable on this subject than I am and would like to throw your suggestions into the hat, I really would be very grateful of any feedback. I'm desperate to get this working!

Many thanks in advance
Wayne
