Re: site stopped working

Ok. I didn't the ISA part was blur maybe due to the medication :(
do you have any machine on the same subnet together with the sbs machine
before your router?
if the port is forwarding correctly you would at least see the ftp login
prompt, since 21 is open.

also what about the sbs windows built-in firewall? off ?

again ftp.exe works only the sbs machine only, ftp.exe from any other
machine hangs
as described in the previous posts.
firewall is a comcast small business router that has nat built in and port
forwarding only
it is very basic, i have port 21 fwd to the sbs machine, exactly as it was
when ftp was previously working
as far as i can tell isa is not running on this machine, it is not in
programs and it is not present in
the administrative tools list

so FTP is working then?
can you open up the firewall or disable it first to see if this is ISA
problem?

if yes, then check the publishing rules again.

i will have to look at the isa, its another thing that has been below
my radar
i didn't set up the server initially, but i have provisioned all the
ports on the router,
however since it worked once, i'm thinking that the isa setup was ok
then, and i certainly
haven't made any changes to it. the server automatically gets it
updates from ms, so maybe one
of those made some changes that affect the ftp
since the last time ftp worked, i have installed php and mysql, which
i have on the default port 3306,
i have had problems, posted before here, but never resolved with the
site timing out, when transferring
multiple folder layers using the explorer option under tools. timed
out no matter how long i set the timeout
limit.

Ya. it looks like only the first part that it get through, then
something in between drop it.
if you ftp locally at the server works?
do you have a publishing rules in ISA (SBS) that allow ftp traffic?

and do you know what changed recently ? as it was working before.

i ran portqryv2, -local, it did not indicate anything other than ftp
was listening on 21
when i connect with ie, it just hangs, if i connect with command
line ftp, i get a 220 ms ftp service reply, and then it hangs for
about
1 minute, never get a prompt for username, them disconnects,
'connection closed by remote host'
i ran portqryv2 remote and got
TCP port 21 (ftp service): LISTENING
but same thing as command line, it just dropped it
so it seems like i am getting thru the router (and sbs internal
firewall?)
so if i am getting thru, any thing else to check?
thanks
bob

1) The binding error, could be due to port conflict, make sure no
other program is binidng on the site ip/port.

2) Temporary disable the firewall.... if still the same maybe at
router level blocking? this should be networking related as it
works locally.

for sbs2003/iis 6.0
had a virtual ftp site working with required user logon, anonymous
not allowd.then something happened somewhere somehow, and can not
connect to site. no errors in the ftp log but the could not bind
instance 115 error showed up in the system log, so i stopd and
restarted site, there's no more could not bind 115 errors, in the
sys log but still can't access the site.
my firewall still has the same port 21 firewall config as before.
i can access the ftp site on the sbs machine only, can't access on
my lan or external thru the web.
any suggestions?
