t hanks again
under the ftp site tab, its got 100000 connections and 120 second timeout
under the messages tab where you can define a banner, there's a text box
called
'maximum connections' that is blank
i have ftp logs, they dont have anything that looks like an error, i can
make that available if you want to see it
my system event log, has a bunch of msftpsvc warnings that ieuser@ has timed
out after 120secs, however the failures i'm getting don't even take 120 secs
If you have access to this server, try checking to make sure your "maxSEE ABOVE
connections" is not set too low.
You might be hitting it with several file copies and actions going on atTHE ACTIVITY GOING ON IS THE COPY I'M ATTEMPTING
once (at which point the server will just refuse the next connection.)
Also try switching to passive mode FTP, or from passive to active mode.IT WONT WORK AT ALL IN PASSIVE MODE, I GET 200 + 503 ERROR MESSAGES
(Just toggle it the other way from what it is now.)
Anything in the Event Viewer or logs for the server?SEE ABOVE

t hanks for the reply
now that you ask there is one folder with a space in the name, so i guess
thats
another problem i also have to solve
but with further testing (and all legit file names) the errors seem to be
random.
if there is only 1 folder, sometimes it works, sometimes not, when not
working
the error is (paraphrased) 'an error copying to ftp server, make sure you
have permission'
'details a connection to the server cound not be established' (which
seems to indicate
some kind of timeout, but i connect to the server in many ways, like
remote desktop connection,
and never have time outs with those other programs)
however, again, if i get the above error for one folder and say 20ish
files in the folder
and then just select all 20ish files, the copy always works fine, it
always seems to have something to
do with folders
also if there is more than 1 level of folders, it always errors out with
the above

Are the folder names properly named with no spaces, quote marks,
question marks or other punctuation?
(Allowed characters: numbers, letters, underscores, dashes)

i have been trying to use the windows explorer option to copy folders
from an ftp site to a local directory.
after starting paste or 'copy to folder' option, the message about
calculating time to copy comes up but never is able to actually execute
or finish. always gets a timed out.
if its individual files i can select a high number, like 20 files at a
time, and the copy goes just fine, no calculating just copy 20 files no
problem.
the folder i want to copy has some subfolders and probably 25ish files
all told in all the folders, so its not a gigantic number. it just
seems to have a problem with a folder instead of individual files
is this some quirk thing or is there some setting that can make this
happen?
