Mmm.. you might want to pull in network folks for network sniffing :)

Happens maybe once or so a day, per server. Seems like a low failure
rate but no failure rate is acceptable. The servers are relatively
busy, but are built well enough for the kind of load they are seeing.
I'm having the client sniff the connection for any possible involved
protocols. Making sure that if we dont' see anything with FTP
failures, it's not something like WINS or DNS or such. Other than
that still scratching me head so far.

Yeah, it is possible, so u got a 0.5% failure rate.
Are those jobs happen pretty offen? what's the interval between them?
it could be server busy handling the connections.

I have a bit of our application that does an automated ftp between
the
IIS and an RS6000 to grab a file. I am getting the following error
sporadically. This software runs at many locations, with thousands
of
users that do this dozens of time each day and this one is new on
me.
Any hints or clues or even direct complete answers are welcome. =)
The ip has been changed to protect the innocent.
WSAErr: 10053 unable to connect to server 171.19.78.6
socket error: unable to send the ftp command to control socket.

function: SendFtpCmd::send()

There are 8 IIS servers that connect to a single RS as part of our
application. The IIS are application front end and the DB actually
lives on the RS, so there is a MAJOR amount of communication between
the servers. In examining two of the 8 IIS servers for 4 days, there
was about 1000 ftp sessions per box (these ftp sessions are to grab
print jobs). Out of those 1k jobs per machine, about 5 jobs per
machine got this error.
A sniff shows no failures at all. I twould appear that the FTP
doesn't even leave the IIS in these cases.- Hide quoted text -
