I can try that but in the meantime, I fixed the problem by doing this:

I used Currports and first stopped the process then deleted it. I then
accessed FTP and bingo it works fine now on port 21. Next time I'll
run
the
process explorer. But I wonder if it gives any more information than
Currports which also shows the process which was the svchost...

Thanks,
Dale

svchost.exe is just a hoster for the program that is using port 21.
Can you get process explorer from sysinternals.com and check what is
inside
the svchost?

I installed IIS on a W2K PRO machine with SP4. I checked and made
sure
both
the FTP publishing service and IIS was started which they were.

After installation, when I tried to start FTP, I get the following:

Internet Services Manager | Default FTP Site (Stopped)

Rightclick | start ----> "Address already in use."

Rightclick | properties | FTP Site | IP Address = (All Unassigned)
and
the
default port 21.

I ran Currport to see what ports were open (as well as netstat -an)
and
found that the process svchost 1056 had port 21, which I assume is
the
FTP
publishing service.

But I also noticed that the svchost 1056 had 3 other ports as well.

Any idea why I can't get the port 21 to work? When I change it to
another
port like 49230, it's fine.

I looked at add\remove programs and no other FTP service is started.

Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks,
Dale
