We have a small LAN... I have switched IIS on on my PC... A collegue then
uses either FTP(DOS) or Windows Explorer to FTP onto my machine... He
sends a
large file of about 100MB.

From My machine if I use explorer to view the directory to which the file
is
being FTP'd I can see the file size rising. If I then Right Click and
Delete
it is allowed and the PC sending the file stops.

Both PCs have the latest updates for Windows XP.

I can't repro your claim. when the file is in the progress of
transferring,
I can't delete the file as the system is claiming that it is being used.

Hi, I have a problem using the FTP server within Windows XP... In the
past
I
have used FTP servers on Novell and Windows 2003... These both prevent
a
file
which is being received from being deleted or open by a machine on the
local
network as the FTP server... We have an application which sits on a
network
awaiting files coming into a directory via FTP transfer.. The problem
we
have
is that if the FTP server is XP then the file can be opened or deleted
before
the file has been fully received. On Novell and 2003 the file is
marked
as
being used via another user until it is complete and closed by the FTP
server, at this point our application could then open the file and
process
it.

Does anyone know of anyway to setup a similar setting on Windows XP.

Thanks

Ray Harrison
