Is an FTP Virtual dir under a Virtual dir possible??

I host a couple web sites that are authored using FTP. All top level
directories are only virtual dir's and are not visable with a dir command.
This is normally a good thing. But...
I want to add a Subdirectory that is a Virtual directory on another
machine. This is used to store large media files.
I added it and I can post to it using the standard FTP client but it isn't
listed under a dir command. This makes it impossible for GUI interfaces to
find it.
How can I make that virtual sub directory appear without exposing any
others? Web authors like Dreamweaver are point and click only I have to see
it before I can post to it.
Help?
