when i try to delete temp history a window pops up
&says deleting but it freezes up here have to shut off power also when
changing days to keep in temp a hour glass pops up and freezes. to stop it
,try to close window ,says prog.not resp. end now or cancel

Depending upon how often you do that it can take a long time. The easiest
way to check the machine is still working on it is to check the hard disk
light which you will see is virtually permanently on whilst performing the
delete. I have seen machines take around 10 minutes to delete internet
history (@ around approx 25000 files).
