keyboard DOM events with IME chars?

Hi,

I'm listening to the DOM for keyboard events, and have found that
keydown/keypress are not adequate for properly identifying Japanese
characters. When I set Vista's input language to Japanese with input mode
Hirigana, pressing w then e then Enter gives events with keyCode/character
values as if I was in English mode, even though the correct Japanese
characters are shown in the Browser. Am I missing something here, or is
there not support for cases like this when listening to the DOM?
