XML, XSL and images - links to images don't work

i've created an XML document and an XSL document, where the XML has a
reference to the XSL document using the <?xml-style*** type="text/xsl"
href="module.xsl" ?> tag.

in the table of contents, my page references both files.

when the HTML files are compiled, the XSLT works correctly.

if i have an image referenced in an <A> tag, the link won't display in the
compiled help document, even though viewing the source xml document in IE
correctly links to the image file (a JPG).

in contrast, if i build an HTML file with the same <A> link, the image is
correctly displayed when the documents are compiled.

moreover, i'm using a style*** and that works correctly in all situations
even though it is included with a <LINK> tag.

if i add a [FILES] section to the .HHP file, listing the .JPG files that are
reference in my XML/XSL combination, the images are correctly displayed in
the resulting CHM file.

does anyone anyone explain why this happens?

thanks,
