You should never use IP#s in a URL in the browser.

The behavor of the browser concerning the URL is different when the browser
has proxy settings as opposed to when it does not.

The problem is not ISA.

I am having a problem with ISA 2006. Internal clients are able to visit
internal web sites only by name.

For Example:

http://servername works fine

However

http://serverIP does not

The "bypass proxy for local addresses" function in the proxy settings for
IE is checked, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. The only way
to bypass this is to disable the proxy server for that session or add the
subnet to exclusions list. However, neither setting sticks no matter how
hard I try (group policy, ISA policy, etc). I must be doing something
wrong there, but I don't see why the DNS name would work but not the IP
address.

Is anyone familiar with this issue?
