Hey Jim,
Not trying to hijack the thread, but I have trouble with several XP machines
taking a really log time to "detect" the proxy when the browser is opened
and sometimes even after that. How do I deal with that. I only found one
article about a patch that seemd really old, and these machines are kept up
to date with WSUS.

There will be "some impact" not just when they open their browsers, but
for
literally every item on every page they browse to.
The browser calls the wpad script for every item on the page.
Performance is impacted more by the number of elements on a page than by
the
script itself.

We have a lot of B2B VPN sites that require clients to bypass the ISA 2006
server and go directly through our firewall. We are rolling out WPAD for
our
company to eliminate pushing exception to the local browser through GPO.
WPAD is working very well for us. Does anyone know what the limit for
exceptions is or where the point of diminishing return begins? We are
looking at ~120 exceptions. I'm sure there will be some impact when the
clients first open their browser, but will performance be significantly
impacted thereafter?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
