I can see via DHCP options that such a senario could be configured.
However,
how about static machines such as servers? They would try the WPAD DNS
resolution route, which I can't see a good way to have it detect their
subnet
The WPAD entry tells them what Script to use,...not what Proxy to use. It
points the Client to where the Script is stored,..that is what it is for.
The WPAD Script can even be kept on a web server that is not even the proxy.
The Script in turn then tells the machine what proxy to use, and because it
is a Script, that means it can make decisions based on conditions. The
script can be customized to direct the client to different proxys under
different conditions. But I don't not personally know how to deal with
that.
Also each DNZ Zone can use a different target for the WPAD script. If you
have a single AD Forest with multiple Domains, then each Domain is a Zone
and each Zone has it's own WPAD entry.
I'm sure MS was not that short-sighted with this. If Jim Harrison is
around, I'm sure he can clear up your confusion.
