Re: ISA 2006 VPN-Sessions Public IP

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Thanks for your answer.
Probably you did not understand my problem:

ISA 2004: The column "client host name" displays the public IP address of
the VPN client
ISA 2006: The column is empty. It would be nice to see the public address of
the VPN Client.

Is this a bug or a feature?

In the sessions overview I have a filter to only show my VPN clients. On
Isa 2004 there is a column "client host name" which displayed the public
IP of the VPN client.

That is what it is supposed to show. That is the Tunnel Termination Point
and the VPN Tunnel is a "public" thing and has Public IP#s. Although I am
not claiming to know why they choose to stick it in the host name field of
the log.

It is the traffic encapsulated inside the Tunnel that is private.
The field for the Client inside the Tunnel is the "Client IP" and will
show the Clients private IP# as given when the Tunnel is established.
There is no "host name" because such things are not available to nor part
of the creation of a VPN Tunnel. You are not going to find any VPN device
from any company that is going to know the netbios or dns host name of a
client as far as I know. You may be able to look in the WINS or DNS to
match the IP# to a name if that is required.
