Re: Backup and Restore / Export and Import failed

Hi,

The previous ISA is not joined into the domain, its sitted in a workgroup.
Previosly I have already set all the settings as the same as the current ISA
which includes, the computer name, logon (using administrator), IP addresses
and the same workgroup. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Make sure the account you are loggin in with the whole time (both machines)
is exactly the same account and is a domain level account. The new machine
must also be interacting properly with the DC when it tries to validate you.

Hi, I would like to ask for help on my current ISA problem which is giving
me
a big headache. I office is now having an existing ISA 2004 server on a P4
PC. They just bought a new server and would like to transfer the ISA 2004
Server to the new server. This is where the problem starts.

First attempt.

- Re installing the new server with the same OS (windows server sp1)
same service pack and same ISA version.

- Before proceeding to transfer the config of the old ISA server to
new, I used the backup feature to backup all the configurations and using
the
restore function to restore to the new ISA.

- I could not restore back to the new ISA server as it prompts error
which states that I do not have permission in performing this task.

- So I use the export and import feature to restore.

- Was able to restore but when I plugged it into the network, users
were able to access internet but all exchange mails were down. (pop3, owa,
internal,rpc/http)

- Reverted back to old ISA

Second attempt

- tried installing service pack 1 and 2 for ISA 2004

- I was able to restore the using the backup and restore feature but
not able to apply the settings.

- Same error prompted which states that I do not have the permission
to do this task.

Third attempt

- Disconnect the old ISA 2004 server.

- Connect to the new ISA 2004 server.

- Re-apply the policies using the Export and Import
functionalities in the ISA 2004 Server

- After importing the new settings, the settings will be applied
and saved.

- After that I disabled all of the existing policies in the ISA
2004 server and creating one new particular policy which allows all
traffic
to flow through internally and

externally.

- I then test on the connection by asking the branches (access
OWA
and POP3) and internally (access Outlook) to access their mails and to
surf
the

internet.

a. If they are able to access all the above, this
proves
that the new ISA 2004 program is working.

b. This also means that the policy somehow was
corrupted
during exporting/importing or due to the different environment of the ISA
2004 servers.

- Once I determine that the new ISA 2004 is working I tested the
policies one by one to see which is the

corrupted policy.

- Each policy enabled will be tested for connection.

- Once I determine the corrupted policy, I deleted the corrupted
one and re-create the policy as a fresh policy.

a. The policies re-created will be done as the original
policy in the old ISA 2004 server.

- After that we will re-enable back all the policy and do full
systems
check on the connection. Will need to repeat step 6 to check on the
connection.

These are the steps which I did for attempt 3 and below are the results of
the testing.

- At first, there was no connection, after reapplying the 1
policy, come modification in the from to to and then restarted the new isa

results - users able to connect, which means there is nothing
wrong with the ISA program

- policy issue

- Deleted/disable the new policy made and re-enable back the old
policy one by one to troubleshoot

results - found that there was one policy which was corrupted
"outside-msw" policy

- Disabled the outside-msw policy apply and rebooted the ISA

results - after rebooting, everything was working including
owa,
internal, pop3, internet and others

- users are able to send and receive (internal and
external users)

- verified by sintha (proved to her that it was
working)

- Then after a period of time monitoring users lost their
conection and could not use pop3 and rpc.

- Troubleshooted for a while (users were prompted to key in
username and password, somehow the user could not be authenticated) could
not
solve

- So decided to revert back to the old server since I could not
determine the cause of the problem.

I am not sure how or what to do with this. I have tried many time using
the
restoring and the importing features and yet i am still not able to
resolve
the matter. Is there a solution to how to solve this problem? Please help.

Thank you.
