Re: Do I install Firewall Client on an internal server?

1. The two internal nics on the servers are each a pair of Intel Pro/1000 MT
Server nics. The Intel PRO driver enables both as a "team" with one IP
address. As a team the 2 nics provide substantial benefits of load
balancing, greater thruput, fault tolerance, etc. Check out this link:

2. Yes, I have SBS 2003 Premium.
3. Thanks for the tip about connecting the DSL modem directly to the
external nic on the SBS server. I'll have to see if I can do that. I'm not
sure I can set the IP address of that modem. Hopefully I can set it up to be
on the same subnet as my SBS external nic.
4. The SBS is working great, ISA2004 works great, I ran the wizard and set
up everything just like in your post. That was already done. My question
has to do with the intern additional server (Win3K Std) that I recently
added. Do I install the Firewall Client on it somehow? It's part of my
internal network. The WinXP pro clients all have the ISA2004 Firewall
Client on them. Do I not install anything relating to ISA on the new
internal server?
Thanks!!

First, out of curiosity, why 2 internal NICs on your servers..
Second, If you are using SBS 2003 premium, then use the wizards to enable
ISA, and connect the DSL directly to the external NIC.
If you are not using SBS premium, ISA will need to be installed on a new
server, all by itself. That server will rewuire 2 NICs, one facing the
internal network, and the other one the internet. Get rid of the
'router', and connect the DSL to the external NIC of ISA.

Hi, I have the following network, and I'm trying to figure out how a
new Win3K Std Server fits into the mix:
I have my SBS server as the domain controller, dhcp and dns server,
exchange, sharepoint, etc. It is also the Symantec Antivirus server.
All that is working fine so far. I even got the NICs teamed up so
there are 3 nics in my SBS, 1 for internet and 2 in a team for the LAN
connection. That part was interesting.
But I decided to add a Windows 2003 Std Server w/2 teamed nics to use
as my main SQL application server and for the general fileserver.
My question has to do with how to handle ISA2004 on the new Win2003
Std Server. I have brought the new server into my domain and all is
well there.
Symantec Antivirus Client loaded up right onto it like any other
client, all
is well there. But when it comes to the ISA2004 I don't know what to
do with the new server. I don't see a way to load the Firewall Client
onto the new server, so how is it integrated into the ISA2004 mix of
computers? After a long convoluted process of education I have
finally arrived at this configuration so far:
Gigabit Switch

DSL ---- Router ---- SBS W3K client client client client
etc
* router has DHCP disabled
SBS: OS, Exchange, Sharepoint, Fax, ISA2004 Server, Symantec
Antivirus Corporate Server, Remote Access
W3K Std Server: OS, SQL Server, Quickbooks Server, ESC Server,
general fileserver, other application server
clients: Quickbooks, ESC Client, Office, Antivirus Client, ISA
Firewall Client
I guess what I'm getting at is I understand the ISA2004 relationships
between the SBS and the Clients but do not understand how ISA works
with the additional server, if it does at all. I would think there
would have to be some kind of coordination, just so that on the
additional server that internet access would work, such as for
Microsoft Update and Quickbooks update.
Thanks!!
