Re: ISA 2004 / MSDE Error Logging - bug?

What you're seeing is the difference between what MSDE supports vs. what you have configured in ISA.
Remember that every day, ISA generates at least 2 log databases (web proxy and firewall); more if your ISA handles lots of traffic.
If you maintain 14 days worth of logs, you will force MSDE to open at least 28 logs, exceeding the 8 concurrent file limitation is
has.
This won't break MSDE, but it can easily impair your logging performance.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it doesn't answer my queries.
I know these logs relate to SQL (MSDE) rather than the ISA log data. These
error logs are written to when ISA starts.
If I restart ISA now, in these error logs, I will see 000's of entries of
the form "Starting up database 'ISALOG_20050412_WEB_000'". Now I get one of
these messages for everyday that ISA has been installed. This says to me
that MSDE is attempting to open 000's of databases rather than the 14 which
it should have open due to my 14 day retention of ISA logs. Hence the
questions in my original post.
I hope this clarifies my queries.
