Re: Upgrade from trial to full version

Hi,

I just went through this excercise!

All you are supposed to do is run the install from your ISA-server CD
(the full version).
Your old configuration will be preserved but I strongly suggest
exporting your ISA config to a safe place first.

What happened in my case: I launched the install, entered the product
key, the installation started and after a while suddenly a box popped up
saying this meaningless message "Please insert the disk:1". huhh???
What disk "1" ?? Only choice was continue or cancel. Continue made
the box pop up again, so I had to cancel. The program told me that I
had canceled the setup, and that no changes to my system had been made.

After this, I could not start ISA anymore. Rebooted the server, but to
no avail: Isa was dead. As soon as the service started, it terminated
with Event 7024 "Microsoft Firewall Service terminated with service
specific error 213008".
On a Saturday afternoon, this was quite a cold shower for me.

Then I tried out this: I copied the whole ISA Server 2004 CD to a folder
on the machine, and ran the install from there. This time, it went
smoothly, didn't ask for that "disk 1" and afterwards ISA worked, with
my original configuration.

So, conclusion: take care - have a backup at hand - because ISA install
sucks.

Paul
