I had not seen that KB article but will certainly keep it in mind, but I
cannot even connect to the ISA firewall to attempt a login and subsequent
dhcp request.

Have you seen KB933340 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933340/)?.
It describes a problem with applying dhcp settings, and so the dns suffix.

Ernest - I tend to agree with you that it was a "patch" that broke it.
Here
is a list of my latest installs and their dates. Oddly enough 5/9 or 5/10
was about the time my VPN stopped working.
Win Defender (KB915597) 5/16
Win Defender (KB915597) 5/11
Windows (KB930163) 5/9
Outlook 2007 Junk Filter (KB934655) 5/9
Sec Update for Office 2007 (KB934062) 5/9
Sec Update for CAPICOM (KB931906) 5/9 <---- I'm guessing this is the bad
apple in the bunch
Windows Junk Filter May 2007 (KB905866) 5/9
Cum Sec Update IE7 (KB931768) 5/9
SRT - May 2007 (KB890830) 5/9
Can we get some input from the MS guys on this one? I'm tempted to use
one
of my partner support incidents to get this resolved as I have not been
able
to work remotely now for over a week.

I was finally able to access my resources by their full DNS name (e.g.:
computername.domain.com). I still think that a recent Windows Update
must've
"patched" something. I suspect a WINS-related issue. I no longer am
having
issues with my connection, but I'm going to keep looking into it.

I am having very similar issues. My PPTP vpn connection on Vista
Ultimate
was working very well for apporoximately a month. About 2 weeks ago it
stopped working and I now get an immediate error 800. I've tried
emailing my
logs to the rras team as described in this post
(http://blogs.technet.com/rrasblog/archive/2007/04/08/troubleshooting-vista-vpn-problems.aspx),
but all I get are delivery failures.
Anyone out there have any suggestions?

I, too, have begun to experience the same problem. When I first
installed
Vista Ultimate 32-bit edition, about a month and a half ago, it
worked as
expected. I was able to connect to shared drive on my office desktop
(Win XP
Pro) by using the \\computer-name\share syntax.
Now, I can't even ping it by the computer name. Although, I can ping
it by
IP address, I cannot connect to the share using \\ip.address\share
syntax.
This started happening withing the past two weeks (or so it seems).
I
wonder if a recent Windows Update has caused this...

Hi,
I have used vista business since its launch and I am using PPTP
VPN, to a MS
VPN Server at work to connect to the business network. I've done so
succesfully for a couple of months and since a week or two it
stoped working.
I have dual internet connections at home and multiple computers and
ability
to connect to the internet via wireless or fixed IP cable.
The problem started in a way that I was able to connect but I
couldnt access
anything, the connection was limited although I route trafic via
the external
VPN gateway and the whole connection went down with regular
intervals. When I
tried from my other internet connection at home I was not even able
to
connect, either stoped while trying (just saw the IP address it
tried to
connect to until it failed) or I got the authentication text and
then after a
minute or so it fails, without any error codes etc...
When I try the same on my other computer it works flawlessly (XP)
When I try to set up a new VPN connection and remove the old one,
on my
vista machine, I get the same problem. If I set up a VPN connection
to
another company I work for, with the same configuration, it works.
It is as if the vista machine has decided to cause problem with a
specific
IP addres / VPN combo.
I have searched online but found no solution to this problem.
