Re: VPN PPTP Sudden problem in Vista

Have you seen KB933340 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933340/)?

It describes a problem with applying dhcp settings, and so the dns suffix.

Ernest - I tend to agree with you that it was a "patch" that broke it. Here
is a list of my latest installs and their dates. Oddly enough 5/9 or 5/10
was about the time my VPN stopped working.

Win Defender (KB915597) 5/16
Win Defender (KB915597) 5/11
Windows (KB930163) 5/9
Outlook 2007 Junk Filter (KB934655) 5/9
Sec Update for Office 2007 (KB934062) 5/9
Sec Update for CAPICOM (KB931906) 5/9 <---- I'm guessing this is the bad
apple in the bunch
Windows Junk Filter May 2007 (KB905866) 5/9
Cum Sec Update IE7 (KB931768) 5/9
SRT - May 2007 (KB890830) 5/9

Can we get some input from the MS guys on this one? I'm tempted to use one
of my partner support incidents to get this resolved as I have not been able
to work remotely now for over a week.

I was finally able to access my resources by their full DNS name (e.g.:
computername.domain.com). I still think that a recent Windows Update must've
"patched" something. I suspect a WINS-related issue. I no longer am having
issues with my connection, but I'm going to keep looking into it.
