DNS through VPN - I want \\nameofserver instead of \\nameofserver.domain.local

Hello,

could you help me with this setup?
WinXP SP2 Client connected over VPN to a Win 2003 SBS with ISA Server 2000.
Everything works fine but I'd like to use my standard connections to the
server.
Connected through VPN I have to use \\nameofserver.domain.local to access
the
shares but I'd like to be able to directly use \\nameofserver.
Any hints how to get there?

Thanks in advance
Mark
