VPN as startup

Hi,

I have an application that needs access to a database running on a VPN
server. In the startup, i've put a shortcut of the application and a
shortcut of VPN connection that uses windows account details to log-in to
the VPN server.

I would like the startup to only launch the application once successful VPN
connection is in place. Is this possible? how?

Thanks in advance,
Garry
