This is becasue by default, all traffic goes over the VPN connection. On the
VPN connectoid on the client side you can choose to use split tunnelling.
This way you will not be using your VPN connection for the internet traffic.
For this, rightclick the connectoid --> Properties --> Networking tab -->
Internet (TCP/IP) --> Properties --> Advanced --> General tab --> Uncheck
'Use default gateway on remote network' and then connect

I just installed vpn on my windows 2003 SE using the Computer Manager.
I only have one network port on the server so I chose custom and VPN.
Then, I go to my XP client, create a new vpn connection. It connect
successfully, but as soon as it connections, I can no longer get out to
the internet on my client. Seems like a routing issue but I'm not a
routing wizard so any help would be appreciated.
