Hi E.A.,
If you have SIBS server then you already have all the VPN wizards in front
of you. Actually you don't even need VPN router because server will handle
that part. But anyway you've brought it so I can't say anything about it.
Well if you have the special software given along with the router then you
must have received step by step instructions. But please remember to run the
CECIW (If i mention it properly) in the SIBS side and mention what service
you need to offer to the outside persons. If your router have pnp (plug and
Play) capability on then server will automatically detect the router and
configure the ports. If not you'll have to manually open the ports to the
internal server IP address. If you need more guides about it then I
recommend you to visit http://www.smallbizserver.net/Default.aspx?tabid=156
if not let me know I'll try to help you.
Regards,
Susantha

I would like to be able to connect to my home office remotely from remote
laptops as well as provide access to two or three pc's in remote locations.
I purchased a Linksys RV042 VPN Router. It has Linksys VPN Client software
for remote locations. Originally, I had visions of just using Windows XP's
inherent ability to create a new network connection and tunneling in that
way. I have Optimum Online cable internet service.
I need help configuring the RV042 router to provide the VPN and then help
on setting for each of the clients. There appears to be lots of
information out there that leads into too many directions. On the home
office side, I can have a 2003 SBS server or a Windows XP PC designed to
be the computer the VPN will connect to; I am just not sure of the proper
operating system needed. We will have two software apps (databases) that
are client server we will need to connect to.
A couple of notes:
- Remote users all are running Windows XP
- Assume that the remote users have no control over their IP and that
they're operating outside of a firewall (i.e., just connecting to their
ISP)
- The cable service does not have a fixed IP address.
Thanks
.
