How did you image them? Something like riprep will remove all the SIDs and
specific name information from the image, so it shouldn't cause a problem.
Sound more like a DNS issue. Why can't you add the DNS server IP to the VPN
connection settings? That's how we do it, and drives map with out a problem.
(although access is a little slow, but I don't think this is down to DNS).
