I tried searching for an answer to my question to no avail, so i hope i'm
not asking something that's already been answered. First let me describe my
current setup.
Broadband Cable internet - modem
Linksys wireless router (802.11g)
Linksys 8 port switch
Win2K3 Enterprise Server (2 nics, only one currently used)
2 WinXP Pro Desktops
1 WinXP Pro Laptop (with 802.11g pcmcia card)
cable modem to switch, all computers connected to switch.
2 Questions. Everything is working great, i've picked up a lot of help from
these newsgroups as far as firewall client, secureNAT and firewall rules. I
recently configured my laptop into this setup and i am able to access the
internet, but i noticed that my windows updates do not properly download and
install. All my non-wireless computers are fine. I figured this might be
because of the wireless access to the network. OOH also, this network is not
a domain just workgroup. Is there something i haven't created a rule for to
allow the updates to download? I am able to surf web pages and also connect
to external POP3 email.
My second question is, would it be better (configuration wise) to have the
router go directly to NIC1 on server then have NIC2 go out to the switch and
the rest of the computers, regardless of my wireless problem.
Any help would be great!
