XP-Home startet nicht mehr

Hallo,
beim heutigen Start von XP-Home-SP2 (neuester Update-Stand)
begann erst einmal Prüfung von Laufwerk C, wegen irgendwelcher
möglichen Fehler.
Und dann erscheint:

"Windows konnte wegen eines Softwarefehlers nicht gestartet werden.
Bitte melden Sie dieses Problem als:
Ladeprogramm benötigt DLLs für Kernel.
Bitte wenden Sie sich an Ihren Supportansprechpartner,
um dieses Problem zu melden"

Und weiter geht es nicht.
Nach Neustart per [Strg + Alt + Entf] kommt zwar keine
Datenträgerprüfung mehr, aber immer wieder obige Meldung.
Auch eingelegte XP-Installations-CD ändert nichts.

Wie kommme ich wieder rein in XP?
