XP bootet nicht mehr

Wir haben bei einem Freund die Basispartition auf seinen Wunsch von FAT32
nach NTFS konvertiert und die Clustergrösse reduziert. Der Umgang FAT32 zu
NTFS lief ohne probleme, der batch für die clustergrösse brach jedoch ab und
seitdem bootet WinXP SP2 nicht mehr richtig. Bekomme noch mit F8 das
Auswahlmenü und danach bootet das system kurz (WinXP Logo scheint auf) um
danach wieder abrupt neu zu booten. Egal ob Abgesichert, letzte
bekannte...., habe alle durchprobiert. Leider immer das gleiche. Kann mir
jemand sagen, welche Dateien da vielleicht ausgetauscht werden könnten um
das System wieder zum Laufen zu bringen. Oder brächte ein FixMBR die Lösung.
Bin für alle Vorschläge dankbar.
