Mhm. Gibt es einen Grund, den Faxserver mit dem Mailserver zu bündeln? Du kannst auch einfach eine Faxlösung nehmen, die per SMTP arbeitet und die Faxe dann an die Benutzerpostfächer Deines bisherigen Mailsservers zustellt. Das kann auch ein beliebiger Mailserver sein. Bei W2k3 ist z.B. ein einfacher POP3-Server schon mitgeliefert.

Habe mir mal Faxmaker von GFI angesehen - dieser setzt jedoch auf Exchange

Nicht zwingend. Exchange ist eine Kann-Option:

GFI FAXmaker integrates with Exchange Server 2000/2003 via a standard Exchange SMTP connector. GFI FAXmaker integrates via the SMTP/POP3 protocol with Lotus Notes and any SMTP/POP3 server. It can be installed on the mail server itself or on a separate machine.

Exchange möchte ich jedoch nicht einsetzen. 

Was setzt Du denn bisher ein?
