RE: Freelancer Vista Issues...

I am having the exact same issue here, i'd like it fixed. It is really
annoying during combat and makes everything hard to read.

I have been having the exact same issue as Ernst. I am running Vista Home
Premium. When I play Freelancer, the game runs fine but in the inventory (or
any other pop-up windows in the game) the text is flashing and flying around
from out of the buttons. I have tried the answer supplied by Vlad (it is
numerous other places on the internet) and it had no effect; the same issue
still occurs. I found another option on the internet to change the hardware
acceleration, but that option is not available to me on my computer, I have
checked. I am using a HP Pavilion dv2000. I have the Intel (R) GMA 950 chip
type for my display. It is in the Mobile Intel 945 Express Chipset Family. My
video card runs at 128 MB and I can't find any way to drop that down at all.
I have the most up to date drivers for my video card and computer. I have
tried editing the code in other ways, I have been successful in changing font
sizes and styles and such, but this flashing/flying text error still
continues to exist. I have the Intel Centrino Duo processor. I don't know
what else to do. I have three friends running the program with me and none of
them are having this problem. One of them even has a computer similar to mine
(HP pavilion dv 2500) and he has no issues either. One person is using XP,
one is using Vista Home Basic, and He (the guy with a computer similar to
mine) and I are both using Home Premium. We all have different chipsets and
video/display cards, so that must be the issue.

Please, I don't know what else to do. I can play the game well enough, but
the flashing/flying text every time I want to buy or sell commodities gives
me a headache real fast. Please, if you can help, I would be very grateful!

Thanks so much!

Hey i had similar issues to you, i found this on the microsoft support site -
give it a shot (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814551)

When you use the Intel 810/815 video adapter, you may experience corruption
of text on buttons in the Freelancer game interface. But the game installs
and operates with no further issues. To troubleshoot this issue, follow these
steps: 1. Locate the program directory in Freelancer. By default, the
location is:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer
2. Use Notepad to open the FLConfigDatabase.txt file.
3. Scroll to the Intel section that is located towards the bottom of the
document. Alternatively, you can search by using "0x8086" (without the
quotation marks).
4. Locate the "810" and "815" section. This will look similar to the
following:
0x7121 = "810" 0x7123 = "810" 0x7124 = "810e" 0x7125 = "810e" 0x7126 = "810"
0x7127 = "810" 0x1132 = "815" Bad8888 NoMipMap ForceSquareTextures
LimitTextureSize
5. Edit this section by removing the "ForceSquareTextures" line. This will
look similar to the following:
0x7121 = "810" 0x7123 = "810" 0x7124 = "810e" 0x7125 = "810e" 0x7126 = "810"
0x7127 = "810" 0x1132 = "815" Bad8888 NoMipMap LimitTextureSize
6. Save any changes that you made to the file, and then close the file.

Hey Everybody

I am having weird graphical issues when playing Freelancer on my vista pc,
the game itself runs smooth as silk but the text and in game windows do this
weird jumping off the page thing. I've tried tweaking the video settings
but nothing seems to stop it. I have a 256 MB onboard graphics card (which
will have to do till I can fork out the $ for a XFX Alpha Dog 512MB extreme
edition to make my rig complete.) So I didn't thing graphic's should be a
problem, thought after installation it did come up with a "Graphic's card
not recognized" message.

If anybody's got any idea's or suggestions it would be helpful.

Thank

Ernst
