AOE2 Expansion graphics

My OS is Windows XP and I have a GeForce3 Ti 500 graphics card. The
graphics for AOE2 are awful. I tried just the original game and it works
fine but when I installed the Conquers expansion the graphics are messed-up.
I opened dxdiag and moved all hardware acceleration to "NONE", I have tried
the compatibility wizard but that didn't help either. Any suggestions?
