Halo - Text line on bottom does not show.

Weird problem - Lately when I press the keys for group
talk or all talk, i get a greyed line on the bottom but
no text appears... Additionally, no text at all comes on
the screen (see other players responses)... Actually no
text at all! (Does not show when I kill someone, etc..)
Pressing F1 for the score does work... Any ideas?
